Running can be extremely hard on your joints. If you find you have pain in your joints or are beginning to develop shin splints, stop running!!!!! 
There are other effective ways to get your cardio in without injuring yourself! Try cranking the treadmill incline all the way up and walking at a brisk pace without holding on. Use the stairmaster, elliptical or recumbant bike. You can also turn your weight training into cardio by incorporating supersets, explosive plyometric exercises and circuit training!
